Parent Involvement: Why You Are Your Child’s Most Important Teacher!

Your child spends around 70% of their waking time (including weekends and holidays) outside of Rainbow Child Care Center. Think about health care. It would be ridiculous to go to a hospital where the doctor is expected to take total responsibility for a patient’s health no matter what the patient does or doesn’t do to himself. The patient is given a prescription and guidelines that they are expected to follow. If the patient is a child; the parents to maintain the child’s health through proper hygiene, nutrition, shelter, and treatment. Recent research shows that same kind of shared responsibility must also happen between teachers, parents, and students in order for successful learning to happen. A home environment that encourages learning, parents’ high expectations for their child’s success, and parental involvement in a child’s education are the best predicting factors of a child’s achievement, even more so than socioeconomic status.

What Can You Do at Home?

  • Use daily routines as learning opportunities to support your child’s development
  • Show your child learning is important at any age. When they share something that they’ve learned with you, make it into a discussion. Ask them what they liked about a particular activity at school, or why they think something work

How to Get Involved At School

Rainbow Child Care Center understands that parental involvement is crucial to a child’s education and development. Rainbow CCC offers an open-door policy, allowing parents to visit and participate in our programs at all times, fostering a sense of openness and inclusion.

Rainbow CCC also has a Parent Involvement Committee (PIC). This committee allows parents to participate by planning events, networking with other families, learning opportunities (trainings and workshops) for families, teacher recognition, community service, center enhancements, classroom volunteer opportunities and fundraising.
